Ovation Upsell help

Languages

Which words follow your language, which follow the customer’s, and which are yours.

Three kinds of words appear in Ovation, and each follows a different language: the app’s own screens follow yours, the words Ovation adds to a customer’s page follow theirs, and the words you write are shown as you wrote them, in each language you wrote them in.

Ovation’s screens in your admin

Ovation speaks nine languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. It follows the language your Shopify admin is set to. Portuguese from Portugal shows Brazilian Portuguese, Traditional Chinese shows Simplified Chinese, and any other language shows English.

A few words stay in English in every language, on purpose:

  • The plan names, Free, Standard, Boost, Growth, Pro, Scale and Unlimited, because Shopify’s own page for approving the charge shows them in English.
  • The names of Ovation’s blocks, such as Ovation next-order offer, because the checkout editor shows an app’s block names in English whatever your language.

These help pages are in the same nine languages, and open in the one your admin is set to. The privacy policy and the data processing agreement are legal text and stay in English.

The post-purchase page

The words Ovation adds itself follow the language the customer browsed your store in, in the same nine languages, and English for any other: the buttons, the totals and how much they save. So do the headline and the words beside the countdown clock, while you leave them blank.

The words you write are shown exactly as you typed them. In Settings, under Post-purchase page, those are the headline, A line under the headline, the button words and Your words before the clock. On each offer, they are What the customer reads, Post-purchase page headline and Line under the headline. Product names, variant names and descriptions follow the translations published in Shopify, for example with Translate & Adapt, and a customer whose language has none reads your store’s main-language words. An offer’s What the customer reads still comes before the product’s own description.

Ovation reads these translations when you save an offer or edit one of its products, and again at most once an hour when you open your offers. A translation you publish later reaches customers after the next of these.

To give customers in another language words of their own, open Your words in other languages on the same page, pick the language and type them. Customers in a language you leave blank read your usual words. French-speaking customers in Canada read your French, customers in Portugal your Brazilian Portuguese, and customers reading Traditional Chinese your Simplified Chinese.

The Thank you and Order status pages

The words Ovation adds itself follow the customer’s language here too, in the same nine: the saving badge, the arrows between products, and the line under the button that says This starts a new order, paid separately. So does the headline and so does the button, while you leave them blank.

The headline and the button are yours to write in Settings, under Thank you and Order status pages, and what you write is shown exactly as you wrote it. The headline, the line under it and the button can have their own words in each language there too, under Your words in other languages.

The product name, the variant name and the description in the block follow the translations published in Shopify in the same way, with your store’s main-language words where a language has none.

Leaving the headline and the button blank is what gives every customer Ovation’s own wording in their own language. Write your own when you have something better to say than One more for your next order, and write it in each language you sell in.

An offer for each language

When your customers read several languages, you can write one offer per language and give each one the Customer's language condition, under Show it when. Type the language codes separated by commas, such as fr, de. That offer then shows only to customers browsing in those languages, so its wording can be written in theirs. When only the offer’s description differs, Your words in other languages under What the customer reads does it with one offer. Product names need neither: they already follow the translations published in Shopify.
